Mother's Day

14 jokes, all of them clean

Mother's Day jokes tend to be about food and objects rather than about anybody's actual mother, which is the correct instinct. Tomatoes, clocks, flowers. Safe to put on a card without knowing anything about the person receiving it.

Ketchup and other family words

The mama-tomato joke is the archetype for this whole page: a family scene, a food, and a word that means both catch up and a condiment. That structure repeats because it lets the joke be about a mother without being about a specific mother. Chrys-anthe-mums does the same thing with a flower name that happens to end in the word. Nothing here needs to know her.

Card-safe by design

The test for anything on this page was whether a kid could write it in a card without it landing wrong. That rules out anything about age, cooking ability, or how much she does — all of which are common Mother's Day joke territory and all of which can go sideways. What is left is puns about produce, and produce has never offended anybody.

The one to actually use

What every mom actually wants. It is the only entry on this page that is not a joke at all, and it gets the biggest reaction, which tells you something about the category. The pun ones are safe card filler. This one is an observation, and observations land harder than puns with anybody over about 25. Keep the tomato one for the card and say this one out loud.

Every joke is read by a human before it goes up. Keep it clean — PG-13 at the very edgiest.
